LingoDominate: only one copy of gene is needed
Recessive: two copies of the gene are needed Color Modifier: Produces another color over the base color (can override color entirely) Color Diluter: alters the color (in essence it dilutes the color, like in paint) Shade Modifier: Produces another color over base color as a shade rather than as an override. Complete Dominate: one gene is dominate. Incomplete Dominate: a gene with two alleles that are equally dominate |

Gray-Color Modifier. Complete Dominate. Foals are usually born their underlying color and then as they age their color grays out. Double dilute cremes are the only ones that can hide gray. |
#Champagne-Color diluter. Complete Dominate. Distinguishing characteristic is the freckling around the nose. Light eyes at birth-then green- then amber. |

Patterns
Kit Genes-determine where white expresses on a horse. There are many allelic series' contained within the Kit gene. Some are lethal in their homozygous form. Since all are linked on the same gene you can only have either two of the same or one of two different Kit genes; i.e. Rnrn toTO or RnRn. Also linked to expression, i.e. Ee Rnrn = will always produce either a black based roan or a red based non-roan, can't produce red based roan or black based non-roan(unless bred to a horse with those possibilities); same for all Kit genes.
|
#W1-W11= White dominate(lethal in homozygous form)
|
W1=Found in Franches Montagnes horses descended from a white mare named Cigale.
|
W2=Found in Thoroughbred horses descended from KY Colonel.
|
**Rn=Complete Dominate. Causes white hairs to mixed throughout base coat leaving mane, tail and points unaffected. |
TO=Incomplete Dominate. Produces white pattern with broad vertical patches. In homozygous form leaves ink-spots in white pattern. |
RnRn
Rnrn rnrn |
blue roan(black), strawberry/red roan(red), bay roan(bay), brown roan(seal brown), wild roan(wild bay), honey roan(palomino,etc) (dominate)

TOTO
TOto toto |
tobiano w/ink-spots (two copies)
tobiano (one copy, carries non-tobiano) No White (non-tobiano) |
*SB1=Incomplete Dominate. Produces roaning over the horses body from the legs/belly on up. Most expressive horse is all white except for topline.
|
?Md=Incomplete Dominate. Proposed gene for produces pattern with white patches all over body in horses in South America, not relegated to South American breeds; may just be environmental or extremely rare gene. |
